Working with Nature for Community Climate Adaptation

This document is a guide to facilitating community discussions on nature-based solutions (NbS) to enhance climate change adaptation in Pacific Islands. It emphasizes the importance of remembering and reconnecting with traditional values, as well as the relationship between humans and natural systems.

Key frameworks:

  • "Right Story - Wrong Story": Used to discuss the benefits and consequences of decisions for the environment.
  • "Absorb, Adapt, Transform": A framework for action to support communities in developing concrete response plans.
  • Three key highlights: These include encouraging behavioral change, conserving and sharing indigenous knowledge through "two-eyed seeing," and ensuring inclusion and social equity ("do no harm").

Core Content:

The guide includes 10 key practical topics aimed at building community resilience:

  • River basin care and soil health.
  • Agroecology.
  • Managing invasive species to restore balance.
